Ben Celebrates Cooking Course Success at Birmingham Ceremony
A proud day was celebrated recently as Ben received his certificate for successfully completing his cooking course at a special presentation event held at The Exchange in Birmingham.
Ben attended the ceremony alongside Support Worker Diana, travelling into Birmingham by public transport for the occasion.
“We went on the bus, train and the tram,” Ben said with a smile while reflecting on the journey to the event.
The presentation ceremony brought together learners, families and support staff to celebrate achievements from courses completed across the year. Ben was delighted to collect his certificate after attending the cooking course each week.
Asked about the experience, Ben said he had “loved” going to the sessions and proudly added that he now “cooks lots of things.” When pressed on his favourite, Ben said he especially enjoys making salads.
The course has helped Ben continue developing his confidence and independence through learning practical life skills in a supportive environment.
Diana, who supported Ben throughout the course and accompanied him to the ceremony, said she was impressed both by the opportunities available and by Ben’s enthusiasm each week.
“I was impressed by the college set up and there was lots of things the Trust could tap into,” she said. “I’ve really enjoyed supporting Ben with this.”
Plans are already in place to look at new opportunities and future courses that Ben and others may enjoy taking part in.
The event was an important opportunity to recognise the hard work and commitment shown by learners throughout their courses, with certificates presented in front of fellow students, staff and family members.
Everyone at Lisieux Trust is delighted for Ben and proud of the progress – he moved from Residential Care to Supported Living last year – and confidence he continues to show. His achievement is another great example of how learning new skills can build independence, confidence and new opportunities for the future.
