Celebrating Everyone’s Right to Be Themselves: How We Support Choice and Inclusion at Lisieux Trust
Every year on 1 March, the world observes Zero Discrimination Day, a day dedicated to promoting equality, dignity, and human rights. It’s a reminder that everyone, regardless of age, ability, health, or background, deserves to be treated with respect and given the freedom to make their own choices. At Lisieux Trust, these principles are at the heart of everything we do, shaping how we care for our residents and support our staff.
Discrimination, whether overt or subtle, can have a profound impact on people’s well-being. In care settings, it might appear as assumptions about what residents can or cannot do, overlooking personal preferences, or unintentionally limiting opportunities.
At Lisieux Trust, we understand that a truly inclusive environment is not just about following rules—it’s about actively listening, respecting, and empowering everyone in our community.
One of the ways we promote inclusion is through person-centred care. Every resident’s preferences, interests, and goals are carefully considered, ensuring they can make decisions about their daily lives and participate fully in community activities. From choosing hobbies to planning outings or even deciding how their living spaces are arranged, residents are supported to express themselves and pursue what brings them joy.
We also invest in training and development for our staff, helping them understand the importance of equality, diversity, and inclusion. This equips our team to challenge bias, celebrate differences, and create a supportive environment where everyone feels valued.
Zero Discrimination Day is more than just a date on the calendar—it’s an opportunity for reflection. It reminds us that respect, dignity, and choice should be at the centre of every interaction. At Lisieux Trust, we are proud to champion these values every day, ensuring that our residents and staff can live, work, and thrive in a space free from discrimination.
On 1 March, and every day, we celebrate the right of everyone in our community to be themselves, make their own choices, and be treated with the dignity they deserve. Because inclusion isn’t just an ideal—it’s our way of life.
