Chasing Ghosts at Dudley Castle – By Ade

I’ve always enjoyed a good ghost hunt, so when the chance came to visit Dudley Castle again with Deputy Manager Gio, I couldn’t wait to go along.

This was actually my third ghost hunt at Dudley Castle, and although I still haven’t seen a ghost, that hasn’t stopped me from going back. For me, it’s all about the thrill of the experience, spending time with friends, and exploring some fascinating places after dark.

We arrived at Dudley Castle in the evening and met up with the rest of the group at the base area. After everyone had arrived, we took a group photograph before one of the organisers gave us a tour and shared some of the castle’s history. I always enjoy hearing the stories about the building and the people who lived there hundreds of years ago.

After a short break for a drink, we split into smaller teams to begin the ghost hunt activities. I was in Gio’s group, which was great because we always have a laugh together. One of the activities involved using a Ouija board, which was something I’d been looking forward to trying again.

Throughout the evening we moved between different paranormal activities and returned to the base area a few times to warm up, have a drink and chat with other people taking part. Later on, we had some free time to explore parts of the castle ourselves, and Gio and I decided to have another go with the Ouija board before looking around the grounds.

One of the highlights of the night was climbing to the top of the castle. The stairs were very steep, but the effort was worth it. When we reached the top, the view across Dudley was amazing. Seeing the lights stretching out into the distance at night was something special.

People often ask me if I’ve ever seen a ghost during any of these events. The answer is no! I’ve also been on a ghost hunt at Shrewsbury Prison with Gio, but I haven’t seen or felt anything unusual there either.

Do I believe in ghosts? I’d say I’m 50-50. I think I’d have to see one for myself before I completely believed. Until then, I’m keeping an open mind.

The event ran from 9pm until around 3am, and by the time all the cars had left and Gio had kindly dropped me home, it was about 3.30 in the morning. It was a late night, but definitely worth it.

Even though I didn’t spot any ghosts, I had a brilliant time. Gio and I had plenty of laughs throughout the night, and that’s one of the reasons I enjoy these events so much. There’s always a sense of excitement and anticipation, and you never know what might happen next.

I’m already thinking about my next ghost hunt. I might try another prison event later in the year, especially around October when the nights are darker and everything feels that little bit spookier.

Who knows? Maybe next time I’ll finally see a ghost.
