First Aid Course Begins
Today marked the start of an exciting new first aid course held at our Head Office, led by Trustee Elizabeth Fruer. Elizabeth, a highly trained and experienced first aider, delivered the first session with passion, clarity, and a hands-on approach that made the subject both engaging and accessible.
The session focused on what to do if you come across someone who has collapsed. Participants learned how to clear airways, perform CPR, and correctly place someone in the recovery position. Elizabeth brought along a practice dummy, giving everyone the opportunity to try out the techniques themselves. Residents, tenants, and staff all got involved, with each person having a go — helping to build both skill and confidence.
Even those who had never tried first aid before left the session feeling empowered and better equipped to respond in an emergency. At the very least, they now feel confident enough to guide someone else through the steps if needed.
Following the practical segment, the group explored the differences between a heart attack and a cardiac arrest. This discussion helped participants understand the symptoms of each, how to identify them quickly, and why fast action is so important in both cases.
Everyone was given a certificate for taking part.
The course continues next week with a session focused on managing bleeding, and we’re looking forward to welcoming more residents to take part. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn lifesaving skills and come together as a community.
