Interviewing For New Staff – By Rosa
Today I came into the office to take part in interviewing a prospective new member of staff, which was a really interesting experience for me. I haven’t done an interview for a long time – probably not since around 2018 – so it was good to be involved again and to have my voice heard.
I was part of the interview panel with Brendan (middle), the manager, and Gio (left), the deputy manager. Together, we were interviewing someone for a support worker role. I felt proud to be included and trusted to help choose the right person, because the staff who work with us every day are very important.
During the interview, I asked some questions of my own. I asked whether the person could cook and what their favourite meal was. I think these kinds of questions matter, because food and daily support are a big part of our lives, and it’s important that staff are comfortable and confident with these things. I also listened carefully to the answers and paid attention to how the candidate spoke to us.
I really enjoyed being part of the interview process. I think it’s a good thing that residents are involved in interviewing staff, because it helps make sure the right people are chosen for the job. We know what kind of support works best for us.
Overall, it was a positive experience, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to be involved.
