Lisieux Trust Tenant Starts New Role at Popular Vintage Café
A tenant supported by Lisieux Trust has recently begun an exciting new role at a much-loved local venue – Pigeon’s Parlour in Great Barr.
The vintage-themed café, which opened its doors in 2017, is known for its warm atmosphere and nostalgic 1940s décor. Owner Deborah Hopkins created the venue as a tribute to the era, and it has since become a cherished spot in the community.
The new team member, supported by staff from Lisieux Trust, works every Wednesday from 12pm, helping with food and drink service. Her responsibilities include preparing teas, coffees, and popular treats like cheese sandwiches.

Speaking about the new role, she shared that the café is “busy,” but she enjoys the work and described the staff as “lovely” and the customers as “nice and kind.” She was full of praise for Deborah, who she named as the supportive and friendly boss at the heart of the business.
Although currently volunteering, there are plans for the role to become paid in the future. With growing confidence, the new café assistant hopes to eventually travel to work independently.
This opportunity highlights Lisieux Trust’s commitment to supporting tenants to access meaningful community roles, build independence, and develop new skills in inclusive environments.
