The popular Makaton classes came to an end this week, as Residents and Staff completed their training – and we have 12 new Makaton experts!

The classes have been happening regularly over the last few months and were originally only supposed to include the first few stages to give a basic understanding of Makaton, but proved so popular they ended up going much further than that.

The classes – which saw fun and laughter as well as learning – were the latest in the series of events that were started by Rosa, one of our Residents, who came up with the idea originally to bring everyone together at Christmas.

For this endeavour she was joined by Makaton expert, Maura, and the pair created the lessons with the help of Trust staff as well as setting homework and extra learning.

Maura said she was “very glad to have been teaching everyone”, while Rosa added “It’s been great to see everyone together and do all the classes. I think they’ve enjoyed it.”

Plans are underway for the next events to take place, but everyone who completed the Makaton was given a certificate (below).
