Mental Health Awareness Week: Ade Finds Confidence Through Music
For Ade, a trip to a recording studio in Birmingham was about much more than making music. It was about confidence, enjoyment and taking positive action for his mental health.
As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, Ade has been speaking about how spending time doing something he loves has helped him feel happier and more confident in himself.
Ade recently visited Singit Recording Studio in Birmingham with TJ, one of Lisieux Trust’s Senior Support Workers, where he recorded his own rap track and spent time developing his music.
Talking about the experience afterwards, Ade said: “I enjoyed the second time with TJ to the music studio and I wrote this song about look out for another one for next week.”
For Ade, music has become an important way to express himself creatively. Writing lyrics and recording songs has given him something positive to focus on and something to look forward to each week.
This year’s Mental Health Awareness Month theme focuses on action and the difference that small positive steps can make to wellbeing. For some people, that might mean getting active, meeting friends or trying something new. For Ade, it has meant going to the studio and creating music he is proud of.
The sessions have helped build his confidence and encouraged him to share his creativity with others. Recording in a professional studio environment has also given him the opportunity to learn new skills and explore a passion that continues to grow.
At Lisieux Trust, supporting people to follow their interests and make choices about how they spend their time is an important part of promoting wellbeing and independence. Having opportunities to enjoy hobbies, discover talents and take part in meaningful activities can have a lasting positive impact on mental health.
Ade’s enthusiasm for music is clear, and there is more to come over the next few weeks. On the next two Tuesdays at 2pm, Lisieux Trust social media pages will be premiering two brand new raps from Ade, including one recorded during his visit to the studio in Birmingham.
