My World Book Day Story – By Sarah

Books have always been part of my life, right from when I was very little. One of the very first books I remember is Spot the Dog. My mum and dad used to read it to me, and it helped me fall in love with stories. I also loved The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Peter Rabbit. Listening to stories made me feel safe and happy, and it still does now.

As I got older, my favourite books changed, but my love of reading never went away. I really enjoy Harry Potter, especially Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I’ve listened to the audiobooks and watched all the films too. I’ve even been to the Making of Harry Potter studio in London, which I really enjoyed. It was amazing to see where the films were made.

Another book I love is The Story of Tracy Beaker by Jacqueline Wilson. I liked Tracy’s character and how strong she is. I also enjoyed watching the TV programme and recognising the characters from the book.

These days, I really like audiobooks. I wear my Bluetooth headphones and listen at home, and they help me relax. Sometimes I even fall asleep while listening. My grandma used to do that too – she listened to the Harry Potter audiobooks and would fall asleep every time. Thinking about that makes me smile.

For me, reading is very important. It helps me relax, use my imagination and feel calm. On World Book Day, I want to say that books can be special friends at any age – and I’m happy they’ve been part of my life for so long.
