Q And A With Gareth Chandler, Trustee
As Volunteer Week draws to a close, we’re ending our series by turning the spotlight on one of the people helping to guide Lisieux Trust into the future. Trustees play a vital role in any charity, bringing their experience, insight and commitment to support the organisation’s work and ensure it continues to make a difference. Gareth is relatively new to his role as a trustee, but he has already brought with him valuable knowledge. Here, he tells us what inspired him to get involved.
Gareth, you’re relatively new to your role as a trustee at Lisieux Trust. What inspired you to get involved with the organisation, and what attracted you to the trustee position?
I wanted to support a charity that is helping people in the local community and knew the trust has a good reputation in this. I have experience in finance and governance, so I thought I could use that experience in the role of a trustee.
Since joining the Board, what has surprised you most about the work Lisieux Trust does and the impact it has on the people it supports?
I think the thing that I have been (happily) surprised about is how much the work of the charity supports the wider community and how good the residents and tenants are at looking out for each other. This has been a joy to see and be a part of.
What do you hope to learn along the way?
I want to learn more about the people the trust supports and how we can serve them better as well as finding ways to help more people.
What would you say to someone who is considering volunteering or becoming a trustee but isn’t sure whether they have the right skills or experience?
Easy question. Everyone has something to offer so I am sure they can find a place. Everyone is different and has something different to offer.
