Resident Watches PMQ’s

It is always wonderful when you can achieve a dream, isn’t it? One of our residents did just that yesterday when he watched Prime Minister’s Questions at the Houses Of Parliament.

Mark went to London with his mum and John, one of our Deputy Manager’s. The party was shown around by Suzanne Webb, the Conservative MP for Stourbridge, and her Assistant Ellie.

The tour took in some of the most iconic places in the Palace Of Westminster, where Mark got to see both the Commons and the House of Lords (making himself at home in both!)

There was the opportunity for Lunch in the Restaurant, where Mark was quick to praise the steak and chips, adding that it was “very tasty”.

For such a politically motivated Resident though, the undoubted highlight was sitting in the public gallery as the two leaders of the government and the opposition faced off across the Dispatch Box. “They talked about the economy, and education and health. It was very interesting to hear what they said,” he told us.

All of these PMQ’s have taken on greater significance this year given the likelihood of an election in the second half of 2024.  Although the polls say otherwise, Mark – who has recently been out canvassing ahead of the local elections in May and harbors ambitions of being a councillor to help is community –  is confident that Rishi Sunak will secure another term for the Tories. “I think he’ll win, and I’ll be doing what I can to help him,” he offered.

Although he didn’t get to meet Rishi Sunak, Mark did see some of the most prominent politicians in the country. “We saw Jacob Rees Mogg as he walked around”, he said.

And although he thinks Sunak is doing a “great job” , Mark is in no doubt about what he’d do if he was in charge of the country. “I’d focus on education and mental health, and I’d make children read books, I think it’s so important, “ he stated firmly.
