Last month we were delighted that three of the staff in one of our Residential properties had been nominated for an award thanks to their work in the field of infection prevention.

Well, now the team are set to be visible everywhere in Birmingham and Solihull, after they were chosen to be the face of a city-wide awareness programme.

The series of posters, produced in conjunction with the Birmingham Community Health Trust and Birmingham City Council, is designed to raise awareness of Infection Prevention, and as Jane Dipole from the Trust explained, it goes back to before the pandemic: “Way back in 2018 NHS England launched a taking gloves off campaign for the NHS, then COVID happened and everybody started to wear gloves more than ever.

“Now that COVID has gone slightly we’re looking at, some alterations. Do you need to wear gloves all the time? No, you don’t. There are lots of tasks that you can do without wearing gloves.”

So, thoughts turned to a new campaign, with Jane explaining: “NHS England decided the posters didn’t reflect our care homes, so we decided, we’d do new ones, using our infection control champions to start, making sure they are in posters in their own working environments.”

The NHS practitioner was quick to add that she couldn’t think of a better staff to be the faces of the campaign, than Deputy Manager John Gillon, Lead Domestic for the house, Donna Gustav and Support Worker Louise Osborne (pictured with Jane): “I know these guys are really, really on top of things, they are fabulous,” she smiled: “They are a fabulous team. This is a lovely, welcoming place. It’s a privilege to visit such a lovely, clean, safe environment.”
