Lisieux Trust support worker Elizabeth Turner, has launched a back-to-school giveaway to support children and families in her hometown, still rebuilding after last year’s devastating hurricane.

Liz will return to her hometown at the end of June for two weeks to oversee the distribution of donated supplies ahead of the new school term.

Many local schools are still coping with the impact of the storm, with damaged roofs and limited classroom space meaning pupils are attending shortened days. With exam season approaching and families facing ongoing costs, Liz wants to provide practical support where it is most needed.

“By the time I get there, it will be back-to-school time,” Liz explained. “If parents can get books and stationery off their book list, that’s one major thing they don’t have to worry about.”

The appeal is primarily for back-to-school stationery — exercise books, pens, pencils, and other writing materials — as well as functional electronic devices such as laptops, tablets, and iPads. These do not need to be brand new; Liz is accepting items in working order that can be used by children and schools.

“As long as it’s working, that’s fine,” she said. “It will make a real difference to families and young people preparing for the term ahead.”

To ensure all donated items arrive safely, Liz plans to use large shipping boxes so supplies are protected and reach the community in good condition.

Donations can be made at Lisieux Trust head office, providing a convenient way for supporters to contribute.

Elizabeth, who still has family in the area, said this initiative is her way of giving back after seeing firsthand the ongoing need within her community.

“I just want to help where I can,” she said. “Just give generously.”
