I’ve spent more than four decades working in adult specialist social care — a career I fell into at 18 and instantly knew I’d never leave. I grew up in Wales before moving to the West Midlands, where I’ve lived for more than 35 years and raised my two children. Over the years I’ve worked across England, Scotland and Wales in both the voluntary and private sectors, including roles as an Operations Director and as an NHS Non-Executive Director during COVID. I’ve also spent time in the United States working with disabled people.
My work has always centred on adults with learning disabilities and autism. From my earliest days supporting people in day services and psychiatric hospitals, I knew I’d found my place. I come from a neurodivergent family, and that has shaped my instinctive understanding, empathy and commitment to ensuring people feel seen, valued and supported. I believe passionately that people with learning disabilities are the best of us, and the values of organisations I work with matter deeply to me.
Outside of work, I love cooking, painting watercolours, and spending time outdoors with my two dogs. Social care is my life’s work — and still, my greatest joy.
