Trust Well Represented at Sutton YMCA’s 125th Anniversary Celebrations
The Trust was proudly and warmly represented as Sutton YMCA marked its 125th anniversary with a vibrant and inclusive celebration yesterday. Residents and tenants from across the Trust came together to enjoy the occasion, including Duncan, Glendon, Ben, Tim, Nick, Dean, Amy, Michael and Laura, reflecting the strong sense of community and shared experience that defines our work.
The event began with a series of welcoming speeches from dignitaries, including Sutton Coldfield YMCA CEO Joy Scott-Thompson, alongside Trustees and staff, who highlighted the organisation’s lasting impact over more than a century of service.
This was followed by a lively and engaging programme of performances. The AlleyKats group and Step Up and Sing treated the audience to a preview of their upcoming show David Hat and Scarf, a joyful, imaginative journey searching for animals around the world. The choir also delivered a wonderful selection of songs, including Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds and an original composition developed during their Thursday sessions, showcasing both creativity and confidence.
Adding further depth to the celebrations was a powerful performance of Soul in the Machine, presented by members of the Saltmine Trust, a Christian arts charity. The programme continued with a range of musical favourites, including songs from Willy Wonka, Grease (“Greased Lightning”) and Busted’s Year 3000, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy.

The event also highlighted the dedication of Trust staff, particularly support workers who ensured the people we support could attend and share in the experience with their friends and housemates. With Chair Paul Eeles also in attendance, the day was a powerful reflection of partnership, inclusion and opportunity.
Most importantly, the celebrations were a fitting tribute to Sutton YMCA’s remarkable legacy. For 125 years, the YMCA has created spaces where people feel welcomed, valued and able to thrive—and this milestone event was a shining example of that ongoing impact, bringing people together in a way that truly embodies community at its best.
